The Wizard of Oz - Avery's First Play!

This weekend we went to my parent's house. We had a great time, as always. When I got to town, I realized The Wizard of Oz was showing at a local theater. Aunt Lindsey and Bram were supposed to come, but Bram got sick so they didn't make it. But Nonna and I still took Avery (in the pouring down rain!) I thought Avery was probably too little to make it through the play, but I hoped she would at least make it through half of the play. Boy, was I wrong! She was captivated! I think Toto really helped! She had such a great time and didn't cry at all : ) It was 2 hours, so I was really impressed. Maybe we can try a movie next? Anything is a gamble these days with an 18 month old! Because let me tell you, she has quite the temper and we are currently working on not hitting. Wow, I thought that was a year or so down the road! Anyway, there was no hitting during the Wizard of Oz - just smiles, claps and "ruff-ruffs". We even went to take pictures with the cast at the end. We weren't looking our best, it was 10pm and we didn't have much sleep the night before, but I never miss a good photo op! Of course the pictures are backwards, why hasn't Blogger fixed that yet? But, nevertheless, here they are!

Meeting Toto...
I think Avery was eyeing the lady holding him, wondering how we could take him and run
(I was too! He was such a good dog during the entire play)
Meeting Dorothy...
Meeting the scarecrow...(dressed in his farmhand attire...he played 2 parts!)
Meeting the lion/the farmhand...she was hilarious!
The Wicked Witch of the West...Avery is just staring at her!
She loved Toto...can you tell? :)

Having a cookie during intermission...

We also met Anna at the play, Avery was so sweet and kept wanting to give her kisses...
maybe she does need a little sister?
Waiting for the show to start...

The pics turned out sooo cute! I hate that we missed the end but my little princess had a very dirty diaper and although my wipe box was empty when I went to change her, wipes would have not even helped the damage she did! LOL!! I can't get over how cute Avery is!! I'm so glad we finally got to meet her!!

How fun!!!! Celestia's first play was the Wizard of Oz, and she absolutely loved it, too! She had to have been a little older than Avery, because I believe it was her 3rd birthday party that we had to have a Wizard of Oz party. We also went as Dorothy (Celestia) Toto (Tatiana) and the Wicked Witch (Mommy) for Halloween that year. Celestia had now officially owned 3 Dorothy dresses, 4 pairs of ruby slippers, at least 2 copies of the book and watched the movie 1.2 million times! :) So glad Avery got to enjoy the play at such a young age!!! :)

Just so you know - The lion/farmhand was a "she" not a "he". I had so much fun with you two girls at the play. Hope we can do it again sometime. Love ya. Mom

I think Avery needs a little Toto of her own!

She really does like Toto! I am very impressed she sat through a two hour play, even with an intermission that is alot to ask of an 18 month old. They are all different though - my daughter would have, but my boys would not have lasted 20 minutes. Good for you for giving her new experiences.

You pictures are so cute. I am so glad that Avery liked the Wizard of Oz. We use to watch that every year when it came on TV and I was sooo scared of that movied. Needless to say I still get a little freaked out when I even see it on tv flipped through the channels. Your version of the play looks alot friendlier than the movie. Thanks for sharing your blog with me.

You are not going to believe this but my Avery's 1st play was "Wizard of Oz" too. And she also was totally captivated. She was 4 when we took her though, so the fact that your precious Avery sat still sounds promising for your future as far as the movies and such go. Our cast was all local children from our town, and they did fantastic. That may have helped for my Avery. And Toto was actually a friend of the family's son. He said "WOOF" alot and Avery just loved that. So glad she...you had a great time.
I am jealous though, I didn't get any pictures, It would have been a great scrapbooking page.
